Important: Attendance at Welcome Week Events

We look forward to meeting you in Welcome Week. There is a varied programme of events throughout the week, which we hope will inform and motivate you as you begin your programme of studies. You’ll also have plenty of opportunities to socialise with your course mates and learn about the support available to you while you study.

Your Welcome Week timetable is below, and we encourage you to get involved in as many of these activities as possible. Sessions which are compulsory for new students are noted on the timetable. Please note that this is different from your teaching timetable, which will take effect when lectures begin on Monday 27th September.

Welcome Message from your Department

Welcome to Year 1 of your Civil Engineering degree. Regardless of your path to get here, you now face exciting challenges and opportunities over the next few years! Make the most of your Welcome Week activities to understand your course, university policies, and support mechanisms, to prepare yourself for success.

Please participate in the social events planned which will help you to get to know your new classmates as you will be working closely with them very soon. As your year coordinator and programme director, we will be dealing with any issues that arise in Year 1, providing support and being points of contact for your feedback. The coming weeks will be challenging, so don’t hesitate to seek help from academics, Hwb, library, student support, and technical teams. We especially pride ourselves on the various support mechanisms available and we will be making you aware of these in time. We look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your journey to becoming a civil engineer.

Induction timetable 2026

Monday 21st September

This timetable is applicable to the people starting Year 1 Civil Engineering.

10:30 - 15:00 - Civil Engineering Year 1 - Welcome and Induction - 014, Great Hall

Meet your student course mates for the first time along with Academic staff from your department who will introduce your programme of study, followed by the Civil Engineering Society’s welcome event.
