Course Transfers

Please see below for the steps you need to take when requesting to transfer course and contact Hwb with any questions.

Please note, the deadline for course transfer requests which would impact modules in Semester 1 is Friday 10th October 2025. For any course transfer requests which would impact Semester 2 modules the deadline will be Friday 6th February 2026.

If you are considering requesting to study part time in the 2025/26 academic year, please be aware that the deadline for submitting a request was 22nd September 2025.

Step 1 - Academic Approval

In some instances, you will need to obtain academic approval by email in order to apply to transfer your course.

When DO I need academic approval?

Transferring to a different course WITHIN the Faculty (for example, Year 1 Aerospace Engineering to Year 1 Mechanical Engineering). Please contact Hwb for the relevant Admissions Tutors contact information.
Transferring to a different course OUTSIDE of the Faculty (for example, Year 1 Biology to Year 1 History). Please contact Hwb for the relevant Faculty contact information.

When do I NOT need academic approval?

For the following course changes you will need to meet the entry requirements detailed in the table below.

Biosciences course changes for Year 0 and Year 1 students
BEng to MEng
BSc to MCHem, MMaths, MPhys or MSci
To a Year Abroad or Year in Industry course
Foundation Year Transfers

MMaths	Pass Year 1, 60% level average in Year 2 and no supplementary assessments	MA-252	The commencement of Year 3 (i.e. 1^st September 2025)
MPhys	Pass Year 1, 65% level average in Year 2 and no supplementary assessments		For Year 3 students, 10^th October 2025
MSci	55% level average in Year 1		For Year 3 students, 23rd March 2026
Year Abroad			For Year 2 students, 23rd March 2026	Students must have no re-sits in Year 2 in order to remain on the programme. Exam deferrals for progressing students are held in the August Supplementary period. As a results of this, if you are a Year 2 student and you have a deferred exam(s) it is likely that you will be prevented from being able to attend your Year Abroad.
Year in Industry	55% level average in Year 1	Year 2 Year in Industry Prep Module (subject specific)	For Year 2 students, 23rd March 2026	If a student is required to repeat failed modules, transfers will only be permissible upon confirmation of progress to the subsequent year.

For Foundation Year students to request to transfer course you will need to pass all core modules in your Foundation Year. You can find further guidance in your Course Handbook.
If for any reason you are unable to transfer to an Integrated Masters course, then you may still be eligible for a Postgraduate MSc course. Please explore the MSc courses our Faculty offers here.

Step 2 - Financial Check

It is very important you check the financial implications of transferring course.

Student Finance - If you receive a Tuition Fee and/or Maintenance Grant/Loan from the Student Loans Company, it's vital you speak with the Money Advice Team before submitting a transfer request. They have a very helpful advice page which might answer some of your questions.

Sponsored Students - If you are sponsored student, your request will be sent to your sponsor for approval before the Faculty submits your request.

Step 3 - International and EU Student Visa Check (if applicable)

If you are an international or EU student with a Student Route visa, you will need to contact the Visa Advice Team to discuss the CAS and visa implications of transferring course.

Step 4 - Submit Forms

If you wish to go ahead and request to transfer course, you will need to:

Complete a Student Transfer Request on the FSE Intranet (swan.ac.uk).
Upload written confirmation from the appropriate academic/admissions staff member for the course you wish to transfer to (if applicable).
If you are an international or EU student with a Student Route visa, you will also need to upload a Previous Study and Personal Statement Questionnaire to your Transfer Request. Please note that if you are on a different visa you may still be required to complete a PSQ Form in order for your course transfer request to be actioned.
