Campus Works

We work closely with our contractors, suppliers and other partners to minimise the impact of any essential campus works and other disruptions to services and campus facilities, including bus travel* and car parking. This includes scheduling noisy works out of hours wherever possible.

We aim to keep you informed about any disruption to life on campus. Below you will find updates about unplanned disruptions, as well as planned and ongoing activity on campus.

*Please note that bus services to and from campus are provided by commercial operators such as First Bus, who provide service updates via their website, social media, and on the Firstbus app.

Construction Works on Campus

External decoration works - Singleton Campus

We’re currently refurbishing the external steelwork on ILS1, 2 and the Library building to enhance the visual appearance and prolong the life of our buildings. Works will continue into the first term.

Refurbishment of Sports Hall – Swansea Bay Sports Park, Sketty Lane

Essential improvement works have commenced to replace the roof of the Sports Hall at Swansea Bay Sports Park, Sketty Lane.

These works will bring long term improvements for all users and are necessary to ensure the building remains safe, energy efficient and fit-for-purpose, providing an even better sporting experience in the future.

Our Project Services Team has been working closely with the contractor to minimise impact from the improvement works which will enhance the sporting experience through:

A brand-new Sports Hall roof
Upgraded SMART LED lighting, ventilation, and solar panels
A brand-new timber-sprung sports hall floor
New basketball hoops, enabling full-court play
Acoustic panels to reduce echo and noise

To carry out this work safely, the Sports Hall will need to close until late 2025.

Roof Works - Singleton Campus

We're currently carrying out essential roofing works on Singleton Campus. We're currently working on the 1937 library. Works will continue into the first term and are due to complete in December, depending on the weather.

Digarbon - Heating Decarbonisation Project - Singleton Campus

Digarbon Project – ground and structural investigations.

As part of this funded project to decarbonise our heating systems, investigative works will be taking place during September:

Intrusive structural works (approx. 1 week) in Margam and the Energy Centre will involve drilling, coring and opening up sections of walls.
Intrusive ground investigations around the Energy Centre periphery from 8 September will last about a week and include boreholes and trial pits.

Other Campus Disruptions

Please find below important information about parking on campus during student arrivals/key collection and Freshers’ Week.

Arrivals Week – Wednesday 17 to Saturday 20 September

From the evening of Tuesday 16 September, there will be no parking in the car parks to the north of campus (areas A & B in the plan below), which will be reserved for student drop-off only.
Disabled badge/pass holders may still park in these areas.
Our Security and Campus Response Team will be on site to manage access and keep traffic flowing.
Other car parks on campus remain open.
Parking at the Bay Campus will be as normal in the Bay Studios Car Park.

Freshers’ Week – Saturday 20to Friday 26 September

Due to essential refurbishment works at Swansea Bay Sports Park, this year’s Freshers Week events will take place on Singleton Campus:

From 5pm Friday 12 September until Monday 29 September: the car park to the rear of the Taliesin Building will be closed (area C in the plan below).

Wednesday 24 – Thursday 25 September: the car park to the rear of the Digital Technium will be closed.
Monday 15 and Monday 29 September: access behind Union House will be restricted to contractors and deliveries for event set-up and take-down.

Alternative Travel Arrangements

Please note that overflow parking is available at the Recreation Ground. Where possible, staff are encouraged to walk, cycle, use public transport or car share.
